It must be pretty hussling to look for currency exchange spot here in Tokyo, since mega banks terminated forex service some yrs ago.
You can actually get cash out by your VISA credit card at Seven-Eleven, Lawson, Family Mart, etc. convenience strore ATM. But, I'd assume the comission rate can be quite high.
I'm sorry to have guided you to such of my service web, but I recently found a quite moderate exchange rate service here in Tokyo, Ikebukuro, that I'd like share an info with you!
It's on the same floor level as Ikebukuro metro station. The shop is in a department store called "Tobu Hope Center". It's located further down towards West exit
at the corridor side shops. (Don't step down staires, it's located before)
I receive USD for a session sometimes, $260 was exchanged into JPY35289, for buy ratio of 135.73 (1$=142.12 exchange rate. So, abt JPY1980 comission rate). So, I was happy, it was very good!
I had another chance to exchange from USD to JPY earlier this month. I went to a shop in Asakusa, had comission rate taken about JPY3000!!! So, it can be quite different ratio at where you get it. I heard that the more tourist spot, the more higher ratio can be.
I bet alot of people get it cash out by a convenience store ATM. Perhaps you pay thanks for convenience, save time, less hassle finding a shop spot!!! If you had some time to visit, explore Ikebukuro, why not take a chance.
Oh, BTW if you are Non Japanese men over 30, you can browse my website. But, not younger than 30 please!!!
Have a great time in Tokyo!!
